I want some stock sized tires on my Monte Carlo. What's the best thing for my desires, which are about to be listed. I used to have a glasspack exhaust, but got tired of listening to it and went back stock. Now I want peace and quiet in my Monte Carlo because I drive it 200 miles a weekend for over half hte year going to college and back. I'm not upgrading my rims, or anything like that, so just a good stock tire.

I've looked at a couple of Hancooks and soem Continentals... not so sure what I think about Good Years and I don't think I want a Michelin (because Michelins are loud, in my experience). I want something that will last a good 40,000 miles or so, have fair performance in wet and dry, although snow is not necessarily needed, but will take it if I can get it, and I'd like something pretty quiet. Any suggestions?

I bougth my car with National Ovations on it... they've lasted about 30,000 miles and are still okay. I never drove a Monte Carlo with the stock Good Years on it though.

I like the Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires on my 04. I'm not sure if they're in 16 inch size though.

I got Toyo Versado's on mine. They're a nice, quiet tire. They're a luxury touring tire, so they've got a decent ride to them too.

I'm thinking you probably don't want something super expensive. And not really interested in a tire that you can take to the track either.

Goodyears usually have a softer ride, but wear out kinda quick. BFGoodrich usually have a harder ride, but last longer.

I used to go play on the track. I think I've pretty much run my wild side out of me. At the end of the day, you've still got a front wheel drive V6 car. That's a good part of the reason I had the stock system put back on. Eventually you realize that you're 15 second quarter mile car isn't a race car. Smile Yeah, before you know it I'll be settled down with a wife and kids!

If you have a tire you can recommend to AVOID, I'll accept that too.

Run away screaming from Goodyear RS-A tires.

Both my 99 Grand Am GT and my Monte came with them from the factory. (I bought the Grand Am new) The Goodyear RS-A's were crap on both cars. Lost traction very easily in normal driving. Especially when it rained.

Keep in mind the 99 Grand Am GT had a 175hp 3400 (3.4 litre) engine. Less power than what's in the N/A 3800 in your Monte.

Oh yeah...

When you're settled down with kids, you'll be driving a minivan anyway. Laughing

Oh, I'm already there! My parents bought one in the summer of '08, so every time I go somewhere with them, I'm driving the minivan!

It needs tires too. And so does my Torino. Everything in the world is needing tires!

Hey! My 84 needs tires too! I last replaced them in 1999. #1111 needs tires again. The sidewalls are cracked.

Bob, are those the original yellow lettered tires that are cracked?

I know it's inevitable. But it's still ashamed to see them go.

No, they were the replacement white lettered tires that we had to replace the originals with after the RV accident back in September of 2007.

I have four new Goodyears with yellow lettering up in my upstairs bedroom ready to put on my car. But the original ones are still good with 65,000 miles on them. I recommend Goodyear tires!!!!!!!!!!

I ended up going with the tire I foudn for my parents minivan because I liked all that I was reading about them, and that would be the Hancook Optimo H727. Very good tire for 100 miles so far, if the need arises, I'll give updates as time progresses.
